UAAP: NU sweeps first round, routs skidding UP

MANILA, Philippines—National University pulled off a first round sweep after dominating University of the Philippines, 25-10, 25-20, 25-15, in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament Thursday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-0 to eclipse their previous best start of 6-1 during Seasons 76 and 80.

“We needed this win to build momentum going into the second round for us to prepare for the tougher second round,” NU head coach Karl Dimaculangan said in Filipino.

Bella Belen led the balanced attack for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 attacks while Princess Robles tallied 12.

“Our team is young but sweeping the first round motivates us more as we get ready for the next round. Other teams will make adjustments so we need to really be more prepared,” said Dimaculangan.

After winning three in a row to start the tournament, the Fighting Maroons have now dropped their last four.
