MANILA, Philippines—Boyet Fernandez is out as head coach of the San Beda Red Lions.

Fernandez had a fruitful stint with the Red Lions from 2013-2014 and 2017-2022, steering them to four NCAA championships.

“For six NCAA seasons I coached, [we had] six Final Fours, five finals appearances, four men’s basketball crowns,” Fernandez said in a statement to the San Beda community.

“Not bad, but I know I came up short on all your expectations last season and I will take all the blame for that.”

According to a source, Fernandez’s entire coaching staff was also let go, paving way for a revamp following a disappointing campaign in NCAA Season 97 won by defending champion Letran earlier this month.

The new head coach is expected to be announced soon.

In Fernandez’s final season with San Beda, the Red Lions failed to make the championship round after getting booted out by the Mapua Cardinals in the Final Four.
