MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has canceled the international friendly between the men’s national volleyball team and Japan scheduled for Thursday at San Juan Arena due to health and safety protocols.

The federation made the announcement late Wednesday, but didn’t disclose other details of the PNVF International Challenge’s cancellation.

“Details on ticket refunds will be announced through Ticketnet. The PNVF apologizes to fans who looked forward to the match,” read the statement.

The men’s national team, led by Japan V.League stars Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo, was supposed to take on the Japanese before the latter sees action in the second week of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) from June 21 to 26.

Japan won three of its first four matches in Week 1 held in Brasilia, Brazil.

The Japanese national team will open its Quezon City leg against Argentina on Tuesday next week at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Philippine men’s volleyball team has another scheduled international friendly against Germany on June 27.
