Caloy Yulo bags men’s all around silver in Asian Championships
MANILA, Philippines — Caloy Yulo delivered the Philippines’ first silver medal in the apparatus all-around in the Asian championships.
The Filipino star gymnast garnered a total of 83.767 in the six apparatuses to place second, falling short to China’s Shi Cong, who scored a total of 83.833 on Thursday to rule the men’s individual all-around event of the 9th Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships Doha, Qatar.
Article continues after this advertisementYulo placed No.1 in vault with a score of 14.867 but finished sixth in the parallel bars with 14.367 and 12th in the horizontal bar with 12.700.
His Chinese rival, Shi, topped the horizontal bar with 14.133 and finished second in the parallel bars with 14.867, enough to secure the gold despite placing 16th in the vault with 13.533.
The 22-year-old, who brought home five gold medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam last month, finished first on Day 2 of men’s vault with 14.917. His compatriot Juancho Besana placed 11th with 13.900, while John Ivan Cruz (13.833) and Jan Gwynn Timbang (12.700) were 30th and 48th, respectively.

Team Philippines finished ninth out of 15 squads with a score of 227.533.
