MANILA, Philippines — Kai Sotto has clarified that there is no final decision yet on whether he will see action in the NBA Summer League or not.
Contrary to what his agent, Joel Bell, revealed during their interview on News5’s PlayItRight TV, the 7-foot-3 Sotto said that skipping the Summer League next month to play for Gilas Pilipinas is not yet final.
“I also want to clarify that no decision has been made about me not playing in the summer league. My agent misspoke,” he tweeted.
Bell said in an earlier interview that Sotto has several offers to play in the off-season showcase, but the 20-year-old won’t join to play for the Philippine men’s basketball team.
The basketball agent also said that Sotto won’t also take two-way or exhibit 10 contracts from the NBA or even play in the G-League.
Sotto thanked his supporters despite not getting picked in the 2022 NBA Rookie Draft on Friday (Manila time) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The young Filipino center assured that he won’t stop chasing his ultimate dream to become the first Filipino homegrown talent to play in the NBA.
“Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words tonight, I won’t stop pursuing the dream of being in the NBA… This is not the end,” Sotto wrote.
