Southern Ladies: Baraquiel, Superal on top

CEBU—Sunshine Baraquiel sizzled with a 4-under-par 68 to catch Princess Superal at the helm in the second round of the 49th Southern Ladies golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club here yesterday.

Baraquiel, playing out of Manila Southwoods, carded 58 points under the Molave scoring system and, with her 54 Wednesday, tied Superal for the lead at 112 in the centerpiece Championship division.

Superal, the top ICTSI bet, who opened with 57 points, settled for 55 this time.

Jayvie Agojo, also of ICTSI, matched Superal’s 55 but stood five off the joint leaders heading into the final round of the 54-hole tournament serving as part of the NGAP-Globe Business Circuit and organized by the National Golf Association of the Philippines.

Sarah Ababa scored 56 points for 106 while Alta Vista’s Ericka Lim turned in a 52 for 105 in a tie with reigning Philippine amateur champion Lovelynn Guioguio (53).

Violeta Pegels of Forest Hills scored 43 and 41 points for 84 to post a two-point victory over Aguinaldo’s Leni Cabili, who had an 82 (40-42) in the 36-hole seniors play.

In team play, Forest Hills assembled 246 to romp off with the title, 19 points ahead of CCC Mango, which had a 227, while Aguinaldo Tres Marias placed third with 219.
