MANILA, Philippines — Jerry Yee has been named as the new head coach of Adamson Lady Falcons in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

The school made the shocking announcement on Friday with Yee replacing Lerma Giron, who called the shots for the Lady Falcons for two seasons.

Yee is set to bring his experience to Adamson, which fell a game short of making it to the Final Four in Season 84 after losing the playoff match to Ateneo.

The multi-titled coach in high school is returning to the UAAP after five years. He coached University of the Philippines in Seasons 78 and 79, leading the Fighting Maroons to a breakthrough Final Four appearance in 2016 with an 8-6 record for the fourth seed but lost to the Alyssa Valdez-led Ateneo.

In his final season, the Maroons missed the postseason after placing fifth with 7-7 card.

Yee is also the Petro Gazz head coach, which he steered to the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference. He is also calling the shots for College of Saint Benilde in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament.

Adamson didn’t mention what will happen to Giron, who had an 8-8 record in her two seasons with the Lady Falcons — including their playoff defeat in the previous season and one game in Season 81 before it was canceled by the pandemic.

Yee is set to inherit a young Lady Falcons squad, led by Lucille Almonte, Rizza Cruz and Lorene Toring.

However, go-to scorer Trisha Genesis and rookie setter Louie Romero previously said that they are still undecided whether they will return.
