Powerade extends win streak, deals Rain or Shine first loss
MANILA, Philippines — Powerade made it three in a row and dealt Rain or Shine its first setback of the conference, 104-98, Friday in the nightcap of the 2012 PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Gary David sizzled with 30 points — hitting four straight crucial points down the wire — and the Tigers have recovered from a 0-2 opening in the conference to a 3-2 record.
Omar Sneed, who have delivered for the Tigers ever since he arrived, finished with 24 points and hauled down 20 big rebounds.
Article continues after this advertisementSneed capped the victory with an emphatic lay-up for the final shot for Powerade, who staved off a dangerous comeback by the Elastopainters in the fourth quarter.
“The guys who we needed to deliver for us, they delivered. David, Sneed,” said head coach Bo Perasol. “There’s added satisfaction to be the first to defeat the unbeaten team.”
The Elastopainters trailed the Tigers since the opening quarter, but ended the third quarter with a ferocious rally and tied the game at 77 with under 10 minutes of play.
Article continues after this advertisementBut Rain or Shine, led by Jamelle Comley’s 31 points, failed to sustain the intensity up until the end and succumbed to its first loss for a 4-1 record.
