MANILA, Philippines—Manny Pacquiao has no plans to come out of retirement. At least, not right now.
Pacquiao remained adamant about his retirement even as talks of his potential ring return resurfaced upon the announcement of an exhibition fight against South Korean YouTuber and martial artist DK Yoo.
“Sa ngayon, ang alam ko nag-retire na ako. Nag-announce na ako nang retirement,” said Pacquiao on Wednesday during a press conference at Shangri-La Fort in Taguig.
(Right now, what I know is I’m retired. I announced my retirement.)
“Yun yung nasa puso ko at nasa isip ko ngayon unless magbago isip ko o puso ko na lumaban ulit. Pero hindi pa ako nagiisip ng ganon. Ang nasa isip ko para makatulong sa mga kababayan ko,” he added.
(That’s what’s in my heart and mind right now unless I changed my mind and heart that I want to fight again. But that’s not the way I see it yet. What I’m thinking about is how I can help my fellow Filipinos.)
Nonetheless, Pacquiao will be back in the ring in a charity bout against Yoo on December 11 in Seoul.
Pacquiao’s part of the proceeds will be used to help build homes for Filipino families.
The 43-year-old Pacquiao hasn’t been in the ring since his upset loss to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021.
