PSC supports Olympic biker Caluag

DANIEL Caluag can now focus his attention on his Olympic preparation.

The Fil-Am BMX rider, the latest to qualify for the Philippine team to the London Games, was assured of full financial support by the Philippine Sports Commission yesterday.

Chair Richie Garcia said the PSC will reimburse the expenses Caluag incurred in trying to make it to the Olympics the past few months. The PSC boss added that they will also make his allowance as a national athlete retroactive.

The PSC is giving a P40,000 allowance to the priority athletes based on its new program that focuses on sports most likely to produce medals in international competitions.

Caluag, a 25-year-old whose parents came from Bulacan, made it to the Olympics by emerging among the top 60 riders in the world following his recent stint in the UCI BMX World Championships in Birminghan, United Kingdom.
