All is lost for the Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference.

But that doesn’t mean they’re going to lose all their games.

With nothing to fight for, Petro Gazz made sure it wouldn’t exit the tournament without a win, stunning semifinalist and tournament leader Cignal, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-14, at Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City on Tuesday.

The HD Spikers looked like they could keep their unbeaten run going but an injury to Ces Molina in the second set, where the star hitter landed badly on teammate Aiza Maizo-Pontillas’ foot, turned the tide in favor of the Angels.

Petro Gazz notched its first win in five matches.

Cignal still leads the field with a 4-1 record and is through to the next phase where the top four will move to the next round with foreign guest teams Kobe Shinwa of Japan and KingWhale of Taiwan.

Army kept itself in the hunt for a spot to that next round with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-22 romp over Chery Tiggo in the earlier game.

The Lady Troopers annexed their third win in five outings.

Army is in a favorable position to advance to the next round of the tournament, with only Choco Mucho still with a chance to upend the current top four.

But the odds are stacked against the Flying Titans (1-3), who not only need to sweep their remaining assignments but also needs results of other matches to go their way.
