MANILA, Philippines —Set to make his first title defense, Carl Jammes Martin said he is eyeing a “dream fight” against unbeaten super bantamweight boxer Sam Goodman of Australia.

The 23-year-old Filipino stakes his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super bantamweight title against Charles Tondo of Tanzania on Saturday at SM San Lazaro in Manila.

Martin, who is unbeaten in 19 fights with 16 knockouts, is eager to win his upcoming fight to pave way for a duel with the 12-0 Goodman in the future.

“I’m not afraid of anyone and that includes fighting boxers within our stable,” Martin told Probellum.

Martin, who joined Probellum in March and debuted with an 11th-round knockout of Ronnie Baldonado, believes his agency has produced the best boxers in the world as he is joined in the WBA rankings by stablemates Lee McGregor, Shabaz Mosoud, and Jack Bateson.

But the young Filipino boxer hopes to see action in a headliner fight against Goodman.

“In all honesty, I think all of us Probellum fighters owe it to our company. I’d rather see all of us grow with Probellum by sending a notice to the world that the best boxers are with Probellum,” Martin said.

“But if there’s a dream fight for me right now, it’s got to be Sam Goodman. Give us two or three fights to market that fight, I honestly believe me, and Goodman would serve as a very interesting major headliner in one of Probellum’s cards late next year.”

As he faces Tondo, Martin is eager to correct his mistakes from his previous match after he was knocked down by Baldonado early in their match but eked out with his 19th straight victory five months ago.

“His aggressiveness made me too eager, and it made me realize that being too eager would lead to crucial mistakes as evidenced by the knockdown I suffered against Baldonado,” he said. “I intend to correct for my next fight.”
