MANILA, Philippines — Coming off a one-win season from his previous stint, George Pascua is eager to bring success to the Adamson Falcons in his grand return to the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament.
Pascua is raring to return to coaching a UAAP men’s volleyball team nine years since he last called the shots in the division with FEU, which he steered to four championships.
His biggest motivation? His 1-13 finish with the Lady Tamaraws in Season 84.
“That became my motivation. It’s like the more you get hurt, the more you should be braver,” said Pascua in Filipino after PLDT’s Premier Volleyball League (PVL) game last Saturday.
Pascua, who brought the Lady Tamaraws to the finals in his first season in 2018, is honored to be hired by another school. But he admitted coaching a rebuilding team that has yet to play a competitive volleyball tournament since 2020 is a tall order.
“It won’t be an easy process. There will be a lot of adjustments. But we’re eager to bring the team on top,” he said in Filipino. “I’m happy to have this new opportunity in my coaching career. It’s a privilege to serve Adamson.”
The Falcons are seeking to improve their 9-5 finish in Season 81 last 2019 after they played only one game, losing to National University in straight sets two years ago due to the pandemic.
The veteran coach is hoping to live up to the expectations by bringing his successful coaching achievements.
“Adamson is a powerhouse school in volleyball. As head coach, I want to surpass their expectations and even my past achievements in the previous UAAP tournaments,” Pascua said.
Calling the shots for the Falcons, Pascua is expecting a good collaboration with his young team.
“It’s been (almost) a decade since I coached a men’s team. It’s a new generation of players. I’m planning to keep my system but I will have to make adjustments because I want to learn from the younger players at the same time. It’s a collaboration for us to reach our goal,” he said.
