MANILA, Philippines–Ateneo has added another talent in Fil-American guard Jared Brown as the Blue Eagles continued to bolster their future.

Brown, a standout of  Westmont College of California, will suit up for last season’s UAAP men’s basketball finalist beginning Season 86.

He will have a maximum of three playing years in the UAAP.

Brown was introduced to the media via Zoom on Thursday ahead of Ateneo’s press conference for the World University Basketball Series (WUBS) in Tokyo, Japan, happening next week.

“I’m a team player. Whatever my team needs me to be a playmaker or to score or guard, I feel like I can just provide whatever is needed to win,” Brown said.

The 5-foot-10 guard also played with Ateneo guard-forward Chris Koon back in sixth grade for an AAU team.

When asked about his eagerness to play under head coach Tab Baldwin’s tutelage, the rookie was quick to explain what role he wants to have under Ateneo’s system.

“I want to be a sponge for him and just soak up all his knowledge,” Brown said.

Ateneo, which was dethroned by University of the Philippines last May,  has introduced a string of new recruits this year including sought-after guard Paul Garcia who is eligible to play in the upcoming Season 85.

Big man Mason Amos and guard Albert Opeña Jr. will be allowed to play next year alongside Brown.
