MANILA, Philippines–Robi Nayve led St. Benilde past and University of Perpetual, 91-78, in Group A of the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup in San Juan Arena on Friday.

The Blazers were up by a mere six points in the first quarter, 23-17, before they exploded with a 30-point second quarter to dictate the pace of the game en route to their second victory so far.

Nayve poured 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, including six triples, for St. Benilde despite being in mourning after losing his grandfather.

“Robi played great. He’s mourning a family member so he dedicates this game to him. Our prayers are out to him as well,” said head coach Charles Tiu.

The Altas were unable to mount a solid comeback effort with the Blazers tallying nine steals and five blocks on defense.

The Blazers also outrebounded the Altas, 43-41.

Joining Nayve in the leading scorer column for St. Benilde is Miguel Corteza with 18.

Carlo Ferreras paced the Altas with a game-best 27 points, while two more players scored in double digits in Cyrus Nitura (16) and Jielo Razon (11).
