MANILA, Philippines–After watching the majority of St. Benilde’s Filoil EcoOil Preseason run from the sidelines, Blazers’ wingman Migs Oczon returned to action on Tuesday.
After their 100-70 win against NCAA rival Emilio Aguinaldo College, the National University Bulldog-turned-Blazer was ecstatic upon getting his minutes back in the playing court.
“I’m very happy because my hard work for this sport and to recover is paying off. I’m also thankful to my team because they were very caring, I really felt like they would never leave me behind,” Oczon said.
The guard-forward made the most out of his minutes, scoring 15 points off the bench and shooting 50% from the field (5-for-10).
Four of those buckets came from beyond the arc.
The six-footer suffered a fractured nasal bone tip and a chipped tooth in their preseason opening loss to Adamson University, 80-75.
Since then, the Blazers improved have their record to 4-2 4-2 with their second loss coming from the hands of UAAP defending champion University of the Philippines.
Blazers head coach Charles Tiu was also satisfied with Oczon’s return to form and said his resurgence will be a huge boost for the team in future games.
“He’s a big part of our team. A big part of our offense is geared towards him and his skills,” Tiu said.
In his return, Oczon’s goal is focused on whatever role the coaching staff will bestow upon him.
“I’ll try my best to play with the system. Our system, for me, is very okay. I’ll try to fit in coach Charles’s system and do whatever I can to fit in properly with the team.”
