Stalled twice, 5150 Davao finally gets off the ground

With an acceptable swim course, the Penong’s 5150 Davao unfolding Sunday will be the first triathlon event in Tagum City, ending a long wait for the holding of the event which was first staged as a duathlon before two editions were snuffed out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

First scheduled to be held in 2019 before it was trimmed down to a bike and run race because of the poor quality of the water, the Penong’s 5150 Davao will now make a grand entry into the triathlon scene with some of the best athletes in the country taking part.

The 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run event will start and end at The Wrec Hijo Resort and organizers will close registration before the end of this week at penong’s.5150philippines.com.

This will be the fourth event of the year for the organizing Ironman/Sunrise Events Inc. group and it is expecting the same success it had when Cebu hosted the Ironman 70.3 won by August Benedicto earlier this month.

Spicing up the event is the Sunrise Sprint, a 750-meter open-water swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-km run race. INQ
