Bea Quiambao seeks a second straight 5150 title Sunday when the Penong’s Davao edition blasts off in Tagum City where Jonathan Pagaura looms as the triathlete to beat in the men’s side after strong finishes in two events the last two months.
Quiambao guns for a followup to her Bohol triumph, while Pagauram after finishing second to Sater Salem in Bohol and 17th overall in the tougher Ironman 70.3 Cebu last month, finally seeks to hit paydirt in the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run spectacle.
This will mark the first time that triathlon will be held in Tagum after the first attempt in 2019 was reduced to a duathlon because of poor water quality for the swim leg. The last two years had the COVID-19 pandemic snuffing the event.
There will be close to 500 participants here, with Quiambao seeking to better her two-hour, 27-minute and 13-second winning time in Bohol even as the Sprint event, a 750-m swim, 20-km bike and 5-km run takes starts the day where 44 are taking part.
