Resolution hailing EJ Obiena for medal haul adopted at Senate

MANILA, Philippines — A resolution congratulating and hailing pole vaulter EJ Obiena for his most successful medal haul during this year’s tournaments was adopted at the Senate on Monday.

Senator Pia Cayetano’s Senate Resolution No. 212, taking into consideration other measures filed on Obiena’s athletic performance, was adopted during the plenary session.

“Filipino Olympian Ernest John ‘EJ’ Obiena exhibited an impressive performance in 2022, making this year the highlight of his athletic career as he continues to make great strides by accomplishing his largest medal haul to date, with 12 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals,” Cayetano’s measure read.

Currently, 26-year-old Obiena is the top placer in Asia when it comes to pole vaulting. He ranks third worldwide.

All members of the Senate were made co-authors of the resolution.

Obiena was physically present at the Senate plenary session.
