NCAA: Lyceum shuts down EAC to hike win streak to 3

MANILA, Philippines—Lyceum upped its winning streak to three after rolling past Emilio Aguinaldo College, 74-67, in the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday.

The Pirates went on a second half onslaught to keep the host team Generals winless at 0-4 at San Juan Arena.

“I only told them one thing at the half: that was not an LPU game. I didn’t see their eagerness and aggressiveness,” Lyceum head coach Gilbert Malabanan said.

The Pirates trailed at the half, 34-35, before unloading a 23-point third quarter to take the lead, 57-49.

The Generals snuck closely behind in the fourth quarter and trailed 63-56, when Lyceum’s Claude Guadaña launched a three-point basket to up the lead, 66-56.

EAC’s Nat Cosejo sank two free throws on the other end but Renzo Navarro doubled down on the Pirates’ tirade, sinking another triple to effectively stay in front until the final buzzer, 69-58.

Guadaña and Navarro paced Lyceum, which now holds a 3-1 record, with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Allen Liwag (18 points and 12 rebounds) and JC Luciano (11 and 10) notched double-doubles in a losing effort for the Generals. Nat Cosejo also finished with 15 markers in the loss.
