Letran pulled off a great escape, but didn’t leave the court unscathed with a couple of ejections on key players who could face sanctions for the defending champion’s next game.

Fran Yu’s three with the shot clock winding down propelled the Knights to a scrappy 67-62 win over the Mapua Cardinals on Tuesday at the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament.

“If you watched the entire game, it was a highly physical match. I’m glad we were able to execute well in the fourth,’’ said Letran coach Bonnie Tan after his Knights rode to their third victory in four outings, sharing the top spot with St. Benilde and Lyceum.

But Letran took losses on the personnel front.

Brent Paraiso, the team’s chief shot creator, was sacked with five minutes left for elbowing Mapua’s Adrian Nocum at the back of the head.

Later on, Louie Sangalang was flagged with a technical for taunting, and was sent off with 13.8 seconds remaining. Sangalang had already been slapped with a technical in the first half.
