The resumption of the Philippine Golf Tour season will be a star-studded event starting Oct. 4, as Juvic Pagunsan, Angelo Que and Clyde Mondilla threw their hats into the ring for the P2 million ICTSI Riviera Championship at the demanding, wind-swept Langer layout in Cavite province.
With breaks from their hectic Japan Tour schedules, Pagunsan and Que will be seeing action for the second time on the local circuit this season, and the 72-hole championship promises to be an exciting one with the regular big guns like Antonio Lascuña, Michael Bibat and Dutchman Guido Van Der Valk also playing.
Bibat will be coming off his first win in almost a decade after ruling the Eagle Ridge-Aoki leg close to two months ago where he beat Lascuña in a see-saw battle that boiled down to the 72nd hole.
Mondilla, meanwhile, has been active this season but does not have a win to show yet—just a number of heartbreaks that included a playoff loss to Miguel Tabuena at Luisita and a big fourth round collapse at Splendido where he blew a formidable third round lead to finish third.
Pagunsan won the pro-am event at Manila Southwoods a few months back, but couldn’t get it going at Aoki last July to finish fourth.
Still, the trio forms the veritable men to beat in the field as the Langer layout basically doesn’t take prisoners with errant shots punished almost all the time.
