Kristoffer Arevalo and Gabriel Manotoc hope to return to the Philippine team when they vie for the three slots that will be disputed in the qualifying tournament for Asia-Pacific Amateur Team Championship also known as the Nomura Cup at the Masters course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club from Oct. 10 to 14.
Arevalo, winner of the National Stroke Play Championship, and Manotoc both played in the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games last May but didn’t make it to the next Philippine team campaign which was the World Amateurs in Paris, France.
They will lead a select cast of 22 players invited by the National Golf Association of the Philippines to join the tryouts which will be held over five rounds. Only the top 12 players and those within 15 strokes of the lead will play in the final two rounds.
The top three after a grueling 216-hole qualifier will earn the right to represent the country in the 29th edition of the Nomura Cup that will be hosted by Manila Southwoods on Nov. 15 to 18, marking just the fourth time that the country will host the prestigious regional amateur team competition.
Others invited to join the qualifying are Shin Suzuki, Leandro Bagtas, Edison Tabalin, Elee Bisera, Masa Otake, Josh Jorge, Santino Laurel and many more.
