MANILA, Philippines—A winless 3×3 Gilas Pilipinas women’s youth team team fell out of the Fiba 3×3 Under-17 early with losses to Thailand and Hong Kong on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The girls were unable to hold on to their hot starts, which came to be the deciding factor in both their losses.
In their 19-15 loss against Hong Kong, they started with an 8-6 run, only to be taken over by HK with a 9-2 blitz to gain the advantage for good, 15-10.
Camille Nolasco, a national youth team 5-on-5 mainstay, scored nine points to lead Gilas Girls despite the loss.
The same thing happened for the Pat-Aquino led squad against Thailand as they succumbed to the Thais with a crucial 21-20 overtime loss.
Like their previous games, the girls began the game firing out the gates with a 9-4 rally. Thailand was still within sniping distance, 16-13, when they sank five straight buckets to get the 18-16 advantage.
Chosita Sakaret and Rotratsamee Sinlapawisut sealed the deal for the Thais with back-to-back buckets down the stretch.
