Ex-NBA guard Nate Robinson battling kidney failure

Former NBA guard Nate Robinson is battling renal kidney failure, he announced on social media Saturday.

Robinson said he has been privately dealing with the disease privately for the past four years and is currently undergoing treatment.

“I was never a vocal leader on the court, I preferred to lead by example, but now it’s time for me to speak up and help all those affected by or dealing with Kidney Disease,” Robinson said in a statement.

Robinson, 38, played 11 NBA seasons, spending time with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Pelicans.

In 618 career games (107 starts), he averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 42.3 percent from the field. He was also a three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner.
