MANILA, Philippines — Unbeaten in her UAAP championship run with National University, Ivy Lacsina remained patient when her professional career with F2 Logistics started with back-to-back losses in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.
That paid off as the 22-year-old middle blocker earned her first PVL win after a full-force Cargo Movers ended their woes with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 victory over United Auctioneers Inc.-Army Lady Troopers on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.
Lacsina, who was part of NU’s perfect 16-0 season to end a 65-year-drought, said losing is part of a team’s progress, remembering how the Lady Bulldogs went 4-10 during her rookie year in Season 81.
“Before we won (16) straight games in college, we went through a lot of losses that helped us learn and made us work harder during those times,” said Lacsina in Filipino.
That’s why the 6-foot-1 middle blocker trusted the process even after F2 Logistics lost to Chery Tiggo and Choco Mucho, where it played with a depleted roster without Lindsay Stalzer in its first game due to health and safety protocols and libero Dawn Macandili sitting out in both matches due to an undisclosed injury.
“We know that we can get some wins (once we find our rhythm and we’re complete). But there is still a lot of work to do,” she said.
Lacsina was instrumental in the Cargo Movers’ first win as she nailed three blocks to finish with seven points and displayed a good floor defense with five digs.
The NU product admitted she is dealing with issues on her shoulder and leg but it didn’t stop her from contributing.
“I have a problem with my shoulder and leg. But I thought that I can’t focus only on attacking,” she said. “I can help my team through my defense and blocking. That’s my main role as a middle blocker.”
After finally ending their losing streak, Lacsina hopes to sustain their momentum as F2 Logistics guns for its second straight win against PLDT on Tuesday next week.
