MANILA, Philippines — Jema Galanza shone in front of her family as she led the way for Creamline in beating Cignal and earning their third straight win in her home province Laguna.
With import Yeliz Basa struggling with the HD Spikers’ net defense, the do-it-all outside spiker rose to the occasion with 17 points to propel the Cool Smashers to a 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12 victory on Saturday at Sta. Rosa Sports Complex.
The San Pedro, Laguna native said she got an added boost from her family, including her sister Mafe, and the Creamline fans, who have always watched their games at whichever venues they play.
“Swinerte lang ako siguro. Happy lang ako kasi nanood yung family ko ngayon lang sila ulit nakanood kaya ganado din maglaro,” said Galanza, who had 14 attacks, two blocks, and an ace on top of 17 digs.
(I was just lucky. And happy because my family watched my game. It’s their first time watching after a long while. That’s why I’m pumped up.)
Galanza, one of the most famous athletes in the country, attributed her stellar play to the cheer of her fans during their out-of-town game.
“Sometimes I’m speechless every time they shout my name and my team. It gives me an added motivation to play well every time I hear them,” said the former PVL MVP in Filipino. “I’m really thankful to our fans because they are always there to watch, clap, and dance with us wherever Creamline plays.”
Despite winning their first three matches to share the lead with Chery Tiggo, Galanza admitted that they still have a lot to work on as the Cool Smashers eye to complete a Grand Slam this season.
“We have to lessen our errors and have better communication. We just have to stay confident and keep our morale high whatever happens,” she said.
Galanza and Creamline gun for their fourth win against Akari on Thursday at Philsports Arena.
