MANILA, Philippines–Converge went on a torrid shooting display before handing TNT a 130-117 beating to raise its winning streak to three games in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
An offensive blitz at the start highlighted the FiberXers’ unexpected rout of the fancied Tropang Giga and allowed them to go 4-2 halfway into the elimination round campaign.
“The players are already absorbing what kind of approach that we want,” said coach Aldin Ayo on the fast-paced offense he’s implementing since he took over before the start of the midseason conference.
Import Quincy Miller had 38 points and 20 rebounds while Jeron Teng posted a conference-high of 22 for the FiberXers.
A 43-point first quarter set the tone for Converge’s dominance before ending the contest with 21 triples, three shy of equaling the league mark set multiple times.
The FiberXers at one point led by 35, a deficit that was too much for the Tropang Giga to overcome.
TNT did narrow the gap to nine when the outcome was already settled, falling to an even 3-3 slate.
Import Cameron Oliver finished with 41 points for the Tropang Giga.
