MANILA, Philippines – Greg Slaughter notched a double-double to power the Blue Eagles to third place after a 66-55 win over the Red Lions on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.

The seven-foot Slaughter finished with game-highs of 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 11 rebounds.

“We played San Beda so it’s really not a no-bearing game. I’m just very happy that we’re able to get through the summer without any serious injury,” said Ateneo head coach Norman Black.

The Eagles pulled away in the third quarter as the Red Lions continued their struggles at the offensive end.

Ateneo found its groove late and led by 14, 54-40 on a Greg Slaughter basket at the 7:59 mark of the fourth quarter.

Jake Pascual led San Beda, which lost to De La Salle in the semifinals, with 15 points.
