‘Paeng’ wipes out PBA, PVL games, Hermosa triathlon

Torrential rains spawned by tropical storm “Paeng” have forced the cancellation of a number of events on Saturday counting the PBA Commissioner’s Cup double header at Ynares Center, the PVL Reinforced Conference elimination games in Sta. Rosa and the Hermosa Triathlon in Zamboanga.

The PBA made the announcement on the morning of the scheduled twinbill after Rizal province and Metro Manila were placed under signal No. 3.

F2 Logistics and Petro Gazz were supposed to clash in the main game of the PVL, but the organizing Sports Vision deemed it best to call it off and another match “for the safety of everyone in the league and its fans.”

Flash floods, meanwhile, inundated parts of the 1.6-km swim, 45-km bike and 11-km run race course of the Hermosa triathlon and displaced thousands of Zamboangueños from their homes.

The decision to cancel the race was made on Saturday jointly by the city government, which has mobilized its resources to the rescue and relief efforts for the flooding victims and the organizing Fuerza Multisport.

Heavy rains over the past few days submerged most of the city’s barangays and washed out homes, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents.
