Huge field signs up for Puerto Princesa 70.3

Puerto Princesa’s hosting of the Ironman 70.3 for the first time has attracted close to 900 individual entries as the city lays down a racecourse over a pristine layout that could be considered one of the best in the triathlon season.

A total of more than 1,300 have actually signed up for the Nov. 13 event, which will be held over one of the best-kept natural environments in the world.

“We are always on the lookout to create new race experiences that allow our athletes to compete in unique destinations, while pursuing their best performance,” said Jeff Edwards, managing director of Asia for the Ironman Group.

The field will tackle a 1.9-kilometer swim course is set at the Puerto Princesa Bay Walk Park, with the 90-km run bike event as a three-loop ride from the southern part of Puerto Princesa to the Iwahig Bridge. The closing 21.1km (13.1-mile) run will be held along the bay to the city center all the way to the finish line at Ramon Mitra Jr. Sports Complex.

A total of 27 nations will be represented, with the United States bringing in the most number of foreign participants so far with 15.
