The Warrior NLEX missed

/ 12:47 AM June 12, 2011

His appearance at halftime of the semifinal game between NLEX and Max! Bond created quite a stir at the ringside section of the Ynares Gym behind the NLEX bench.
For a while, I thought it was the ballclub’s head honcho, Manny V. Pangilinan, who had arrived unannounced to cheer for his team, which was, by then, only 20 minutes away from the D-League finals against Jean Henri Lhuillier’s Cebuana Lhuillier .
As heads turned towards the source of the commotion, three hunks marched in, much to the delight of screaming fans of the third sex seated in our row.
It was TV-movie actor Gerald Anderson.

Player agent Charlie Dy, who sat beside Gerald and his two companions throughout the game, later told me that Gerald almost became part of the NLEX Road Warriors if only  his network, with whom he was under contract, had  allowed him to play.
“He’s good enough to play in the D-League,” said Charlie, who identified Gerald’s companions as Andrei Felix of an ABS-CBN’s morning show and a Pinoy Big Brother star.
“The Road Warriors have become his friends, that’s why he’s here to support them,” said Charlie, who added that the young star played varsity basketball in General Santos where he comes from.

NLEX and Cebuana Lhuillier will figure in a best-of-three finals series starting Tuesday, June 14 at The Arena, where anyone can watch for free.
The two teams were early favorites, along with Freego Jeans, composed of Adamson players and coached by Leo Austria, and Maynilad, represented by NCAA champion San Beda and coached by Frankie Lim.
NLEX and Cebuana Lhuillier are mentored by former Sta. Lucia  head coach Boyet Fernandez and Luigi Trillo, respectively.

If ever he decides to get married,  this PBA personality—a bachelor in his late forties—said he would make sure he hires the wedding planner commissioned by San Miguel Beer cager Arwind Santos for his grand  wedding to the former Yvette Gavierres in Tagaytay last Friday.
To start with, the PBA bachelor was very impressed with the lineup of  principal sponsors, most of whom are big names in business and sports.
The list included PBA Commissioner Chito Salud, PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial, Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao, player agent Danny Espiritu, Pampanga’s Bong Pineda, lawyer Dennis Villa Ignacio, SMC’s Danding Cojuangco, represented by PBA governor Robert Non, and Ramon Ang, represented by former PBA commissioner Noli Eala.

The PBA bachelor said it was one of the most emotional weddings he has ever attended.
“The father of  the bride, Danny Gavierres, cried all the way as he walked his daughter down the aisle.  The mother, who delivered a heartwarming speech later was crying too. There were five cute flower girls in the bridal entourage, all of them  Arwind’s daughters. Three of them were Arwind’s children with his first wife.”
According to the PBA bachelor, even the cuisine was great. All the ingredients that went into the wedding reportedly cost the cager a cool P 1.6 million.

“Why does this host of a TV morning show, who claims to be an ardent Ginebra fan, hate you so?” a scribe asked Ginebra coach Jong Uichico during a dinner he hosted for media recently.
The scribe said the popular TV personality has been lambasting and maligning the Ginebra coach for as long as he can remember, going so far as to implore Ginebra management to replace him.
Jong said that’s the same question he has been asking himself.
