NCAA: Enoch Valdez hits 30 as Lyceum nails Final Four

MANILA, Philippines—Lyceum turned to Enoch Valdez to secure a Final Four spot after holding off San Sebastian, 73-65, in the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Sunday.

Valdez flourished in the fourth quarter, where he scored 14 of his game-high 30 points as the Pirates clinched their first playoff appearance since 2019.

“I’m proud of them, not just me but the other coaches as well. Also, the way he performed, that’s what we needed. The good thing there as well is our trust in him and everyone,” coach Gilbert Malabanan said.

The Pirates upped their mark to 11-5 and became the second team this season to secure a Final Four seat after the Letran Knights.

Valdez, who also had 11 rebounds and three steals, hit the crucial baskets including four straight points down the stretch to seal the game, 66-58.

JM Bravo added 10 points and eight rebounds while Enzo Navarro chipped in seven points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals for Lyceum.

Romel Calahat tallied 19 points and nine boards for the Stags (6-8), who have to sweep their remaining games to have a shot at making the Final Four.
