MANILA—Following his big win in Batangas, Tuason Racing protégé Basti Escalante hopes to wrest solo leadership in the Formula SL Novice as he guns for a back-to-back in the third leg of the 2011 National Karting Super Series today at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex.
His impressive Batangas triumph put him back in the spotlight from a disappointing kickoff stint as he now moved up second overall with the big support of Tuason Racing School.
Basti now holds a total of 104 points, 26 points behind current leader Sacha Feliciano. A big sweep could install him on top.
But the narrow, high speed course of the Boomland track will be a big challenge. Escalante said he will just have to maximize the power of his engine to contend for the crown.
“The pressure is on me. This is just my first year in this class and there are a lot of other talented guys also raring to shine. I’ll focus on my race and with right strategy at the right time, hopefully I’ll pull through,” said Escalante.
In the last race, he started 10th on the grid but with determination and prodding from Tuason Racing president JP Tuason, he managed to pull off the amazing victory.
