LIPA CITY—Dumaguete ended its four-game losing streak even as Taguig upset host Batangas, 10-6, yesterday in Baseball Philippines’ Series 8 double-header in San Sebastian, Lipa City.
The Unibikers broke into the win column in style, pulling off a 15-9 win over the Alabang Tigers behind a four-run binge in the second inning and a seven-run splurge in the next frame.
“I guess it was finally our time to win a game in this tournament,” said coach Iking Jimenez of Dumaguete, which tied Alabang at 1-5.
Taguig climbed to third, half a game ahead of Batangas at 2-4, as Irvin Tuazon, Jeffrey Hardillo and Darwin dela Calzada gave the Patriots the lead to stay with two RBI doubles each in the third inning.
Dela Calzada was also the winning hurler, striking out three and allowing five hits after relieving Tuazon. Vladymir Eguia took the loss for the Bulls, giving up 13 hits, two walks and fanning out six.
Manila and Cebu, already in the semifinals with identical 7-1 cards, clash in another out-of-town sortie today at the Aboitiz field in Mandaue City in Cebu.
