NBA: Trae Young dominates as Hawks put away Magic

Trae Young had a double-double by halftime and finished with 30 points and 14 assists to help the visiting Atlanta Hawks end a three-game losing streak with a 125-108 win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

Young had 15 points and 10 rebounds at the half and scored another 15 in the third quarter. He was 12-for-23 from the field, 4-for-5 from the line, matched his season high for assists and committed only two turnovers.

The Hawks also got 27 points from Dejounte Murray and 20 points and 12 rebounds from Clint Capela.

Atlanta had to play the second half without John Collins, who hurt his left ankle while landing after an alley-oop pass and was limited to 17 minutes, and De’Andre Hunter, who left with soreness in his left side and played only seven minutes.

The Hawks got a lift from Jarrett Culver, a two-way contract player, who came off the bench to score nine points and grab a career-high 12 rebounds.

Orlando got 22 points from Franz Wagner and 20 points from Paolo Banchero. The Magic lost their sixth straight game.

Atlanta, which had been having trouble shooting from the perimeter, took the ball inside in the first half. The Hawks led 70-50 at halftime and 36 of those points came in the paint. One of the biggest beneficiaries was Capela, who had 12 points on perfect 6-for-6 shooting, the 10th time in his career that he’s scored 10-plus points on a perfect mark in a single quarter. Atlanta finished with 62 points in the paint.

The Hawks took a 13-point lead when A.J. Griffin’s floater made it 34-21 at 1:27 and Atlanta led 38-27 after one quarter. Orlando never got closer than eight points and the Hawks went on a 15-2 run in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 18. Atlanta led 70-50 at halftime.

Atlanta is 2-0 against Orlando and has won three in a row against the Magic.

Atlanta returns home on Friday to play the Denver Nuggets. Orlando travels to Cleveland on Friday.
