Jim Furyk grabs lead from Tiger, Toms at US Open
SAN FRANCISCO — Jim Furyk is back at even par and alone on top in the U.S. Open.
Furyk overcame a bogey on No. 1 and then made par on the next three holes Saturday. Fellow 36-hole leaders Tiger Woods and David Toms were 2 over through four and 1 over for the tournament.
Graeme McDowell and Nicolas Colsaerts also were tied for second at 1 over through five holes. Furyk held the clubhouse lead most of Friday until Woods and Toms closed strong with even-par 70s to join Furyk.
Phil Mickelson shot a 71 to go to 8 over for the tournament. He missed a putt to save par from about 7 feet on the 18th hole, but the crowd gave him some consolation by serenading him with “Happy Birthday” on the day he turned 42.
