MANILA. Philippines — Rhenz Abando saw limited action but the Anyang KGC was still too much for Ethan Albano and Wonju DB Promy, 92-74, in the 2022-23 Korean Basketball League season on Thursday at Anyang Gymnasium.

After being benched last Tuesday in their 84-82 win over Goyang Carrot Jumpers, Abando played for 11 minutes and finished with two points, two rebounds, and a steal as Anyang earned its second straight victory to end the year with an 18-8 record at the top seed.

Despite the former NCAA MVP’s limited minutes, Omari Spellman lifted Anyang by unleashing 38 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Alvano outplayed his fellow Filipino import Abando as he displayed an all-around game of 11 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds but his efforts went for naught with Wonju suffering its second straight loss and sliding to a 10-16 record.

Meanwhile, SJ Belangel couldn’t end the woes of the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus as they absorbed their sixth straight defeat at the hands of Jeonju KCC Egis, 82-73, at Gunsan Wolmyeong Gymnasium.

Belangel delivered 10 points, shooting two triples on top of three assists but the Pegasus continued to reel with a 10-16 card.

Lee Dae-heon and Lee Dae-sung also anchored Daegu’s offense with 17 points each.

Heo Ung powered Jeonju with 22 points off five treys. Ricardo Ratliffe put up a double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds as they improved to 13-13 in sixth place.

KCC Egis, reportedly recruiting Adamson star Jerom Lastimosa, signed a new Asian import in Filipino-Canadian Calvin Epistola in a social media announcement on Thursday.
