Confusion over players’ Asiad hoop accreditation
There is confusion over the accreditation of players of the Philippine men’s basketball team to the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, from Nov. 12 to 27. POC deputy Chef de Mission Mauricio Martelino said he had received a roster of names from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) which included three players picked during the recent PBA Draft and four PBA players whose Asiad stint still hasn’t been green-lighted by the pro league. Martelino said the deadline for submission of names set by the POC is Sept. 15 while the Chinese Asian Games Organizing Committee has set a Sept. 30 cutoff date for the submission of entries. PBA chair Rene Pardo told the Inquirer that the board will take up the request for the release of Asi Taulava, Kelly Williams and James Yap on Sept. 19, four days after the POC deadline. The Inquirer obtained a list of the names submitted by the SBP, which included Rabeh Al Hussaini, Rey Guevarra and RJ Jazul who were drafted by PBA teams, Dylan Ababou, JVee Casio, Jason Ballesteros, Aldrech Ramos, Chris Tiu, Ricardo Cawaling, Greg Slaughter, Mark Barroca and Mac Baracael. The SBP sent another batch of names for accreditation, which included Japeth Aguilar. Another batch of names submitted included Marcio Lassiter, Taulava, Williams and Yap.
