QC five rules Coke Hoopla via a sweep

MANILA—Quezon City repeated over Taguig, 104-72, to complete a sweep of the 2nd Coca-Cola Hoopla best-of-three finals before a jubilant hometown crowd over the weekend.

Leon Lazaro and Christopher Villarosa, who took the Most Valuable Player award, combined for 35 points as QC followed up on its 91-84 Game 1 victory at the jampacked Bgy. Libis covered court.

Taguig, which sank 13 triples in the opener, made only five of 14 from beyond the arc. It also flubbed 20 bonus shots.

“This is the product of our long preparation,” said QC mentor Rene Baena, who was named Best Coach. “My expectation is high because we have a deeper bench.”

QC won P250,000 in the developmental league for non-varsity players 18 and under. Taguig settled for P125,000. Third-placer Caloocan pocketed P75,000 while its victim Antipolo took P50,000.

JB Baylon, Coca-Cola vice president for communication and public affairs, was assisted by tournament commissioner Joe Lipa during the awarding rites.

Villarosa was joined in the Mythical Five by Lazaro, Taguig’s Joshua Morris Mayor, Caloocan’s Arjay Napenas and Mandaluyong’s Bernard Repato.

Antipolo’s Jayvee Mocon and Pasig’s Dave Tolentino shared the Coke Hoopla Rising Stars award.
