MANILA, Philippines — Allen Liwag has found his new home at College of Saint Benilde.
St. Benilde coach Charles Tiu confirmed that the former Emilio Aguinaldo College forward has committed to join his team.
“Excited to have him on board. He will be a big piece for our team and a very big addition. He’s a great player and we will continue to develop his game,” Tiu told Inquirer Sports.
Liwag bid farewell to EAC last week after two seasons. He also had an offer from San Beda but he chose to play for St. Benilde, which made its first NCAA Finals last December after two decades only to settle for a runner-up finish.
The 21-year-old big man, who averaged 10.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 0.93 blocks, and 0.53 steals for the Generals in their 3-15 finish in Season 98, will have to sit out for one year before debuting as a Blazer in the NCAA.
Tiu said once Liwag accomplishes his requirements and enrollment, he will start training and playing with St.Benilde’s Team B in other leagues
“We will try to get him to play in as many leagues with our team B as possible and he will join our training sessions also. I guess once he gets his paper works done and enrolls,” the Blazers coach said.
The 6-foot-6 Liwag will debut in Season 100 in 2024, filling in the role of reigning MVP Will Gozum, who will play his final year in the upcoming Season 99.
