MANILA, Philippines – Filipino bet Rubilen Amit and Iris Ranola remain in contention after the first day of the Women’s World 9-ball Championship at Shenyang, China Tuesday.
Amit, though, kept a clean slate by edging two opponents and was a victory away from the knockout phase of the annual competition.
Amit overcame Zhiting Wu of China and Junko Tsuchiya of Japan with similar 7-6 victories, arranging a meeting with world number two Kelly Fisher of Great Britain.
A win over Fisher will catapult Amit to the final 32.
Iris Ranola, on the other hand, lost to world number three player Han Yu of China and was relegated to the losers’ bracket in the eliminations.
Ranola pulled through against Nacola Rossouw of Russia, 7-4, but was unable to get past Han, 1-7.
Another loss will eliminate Ranola, who is set to face Charlene Chai of Singapore.
