MANILA, Philippines—Bantamweight prospects Kenneth LLover and Benny Canete headlined another slam-bang Blow by Blow event over the weekend in Mandaluyong City.
Llover (8-0, 5KOs) beat Canete (7-1, 6KOs) on points to win the Philippine Boxing Federation title before a sizable crowd at Barangay Mauway Executive Sports Complex.
The bout bannered a 14-fight card that marked Blow-by-Blow’s second event since Manny Pacquiao revived the show last November.
Blow-by-Blow was originally launched in the 1990s when a young Pacquiao fought several times.
“It was great seeing fighters from different stables competing against each other. That’s the sign of a healthy competition,” said Pacquiao, who made sure to catch the fights from his residence in General Santos City.
Pacquiao plans to hold an event once a month, hoping to discover the next Filipino world champion.
“Boxing will always be close to my heart. I know the feeling when you are just trying to make your way up,” Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, said.
“It brings back memories of when I was still fighting mostly in Mandaluyong when I was just beginning.”
