NU stays unbeaten; UE notches first win in UAAP juniors

MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Nazareth School of National University remained undefeated after clipping La Salle-Zobel, 74-71, in the UAAP Season 85 juniors basketball tournament at San Andres Complex on Sunday.

Reinhard Jumamoy flirted with a triple-double, collecting 19 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Bullpups while RJ Colonia added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Rhyle Melecio starred for the Junior Archers in the loss, finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds. La Salle dropped to 1-4.

University of the East, meanwhile, notched its first win after stunning Ateneo, 84-79.

Vhon Roldan sizzled with 24 points built on four triples to give the Junior Warriors their first win of the season after five games.

Kristian Porter’s 34 points and 18 rebounds were not enough as Ateneo suffered its third loss in five games. LeBron Nieto had 12 but only shot 5-of-19 from the field.

Far Eastern University dumped University of the Philippines Integrated School, 97-59, behind the efforts of Jedric Daa and JR Pasaol.

Daa scored 16 points on 58 percent shooting from the field while Pasaol posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists as the Baby Tamaraws improved to 4-1.

UPIS also fell to 1-4 despite Kobe Demisana’s 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Adamson tied FEU in second place after a 91-64 romp of University of Santo Tomas.

Mat Edding stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists for the Baby Falcons (4-1), who also drew a big game from Vince Reyes.

Reyes made his presence felt in the paint with 16 points on top of eight rebounds and three blocks.
