PBA: San Miguel steamrolls Blackwater for 2-0 start
MANILA, Philippines-San Miguel Beer registered another lopsided result in the PBA Governors’ Cup after putting the clamps on Blackwater with a 105-86 win on Wednesday at Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Five players led by Jericho Cruz and import Cameron Clark scored in double figures as the Beermen leaned on another first half onslaught to go 2-0 in the season-ending conference under their new coach Jorge Gallent.
Article continues after this advertisement“We’re playing well because they’re defending well,” said Gallent, whose team came off a 114-93 rout of Phoenix three nights prior to begin the campaign. “I think our offense goes up because of our defense.”
Cruz came off the bench to score 22 points while Clark had 14 of his 20 points in the first half which saw the Beermen lead by 30 before going into the locker room ahead 63-38.
June Mar Fajardo added 17 points, including a rare three-pointer, while grabbing 16 rebounds and dishing out four assists for the Beermen.
Article continues after this advertisementBlackwater fell to 1-2 as it failed to replicate a strong showing against Phoenix last Friday at Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Import Shawn Glover posted 16 points and 12 rebounds but the key players from the Bossing’s recent match struggled.
One of them was Baser Amer who was held to just four points on 2-of-6 shooting.
