MANILA, Philippines—AMC Cotabato improved to 2-0 in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference but coach Odjie Mamon was not satisfied with his team’s performance.

AMC beat Army, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, but committed 36 miscues much to the dismay of Mamon.

“We were so erratic and with the amount of errors, we were getting frustrated,” said Mamon, who was recently named interim coach of the Philippine men’s national team.

Jau Umandal led AMC, which tied Imus and Iloilo in first place, with 17 points, highlighted by three blocks. He also had 13 attacks and a service ace.

The Troopers threatened to extend the match to a deciding fifth set after taking a 19-17 edge.

But the troika of Umandal, Edward Camposano and Madz Gampong conspired in an 8-3 fightback by AMC to end the game. Camposano finished with 12 points.

Benjaylo Labide and PJ Rojas registered 14 and 12 points, respectively for Army, which split its first two games.

AMC swept VNS Griffins, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23, on Friday.
