MANILA, Philippines—VNS barged into the win column after blanking Vanguard, 25-18, 30-28, 26-24, in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Wednesday at Paco Arena.

The Griffins bounced back after suffering an opening loss to AMC Cotabato in three sets on Friday.

“This win makes me happy and this boosts our morale because the majority of my players did not play in the UAAP or NCAA,” coach Ralph Ocampo said in Filipino.

It was a gutsy win by VNS, which clawed back from an 18-24 deficit in the second set.

The third set saw VNS blow a 19-12 lead as Vanguard managed to knot the count at 24. The Griffins dodged a bullet after Pemie Bagalay nailed the game-clinching kill.

Ron Medalla spearheaded VNS to victory with 11 points while Bagalay and Noy Pedrosa chalked up nine points each.

Abrot’s 18-point performance was put to waste as the Volley Hitters dropped to an identical 1-1 record with VNS.
