MANILA, Philippines — Greg Dolor led a balanced attack by PGJC-Navy to keep Sta. Rosa winless in three games, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23, in the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Friday at Paco Arena.

Dolor poured in 12 points, providing five of his Navy’s 10 blocks to deliver their first win in two games and take down the Laguna-based team in just 76 minutes.

Geffrey Alicando also propelled the Sea Lions with 10 points, including three aces, while Christian Marcelino and Jemmy Entig added nine points each.

Setter Owen Suarez made 14 excellent sets, as Marvin Villanueva and Jude Garcia chipped in eight and seven markers, respectively.

Navy assistant coach Leah Ariola, who filled in for coach Cecille Cruzada due to an emergency, was pleased to see the response of her team, coming off a five-set collapse to Army.

“We learned our lesson after our loss to Army. Because during that time we lacked communication and didn’t work as a team,” said Ariola in Filipino. “I just told them not to underestimate [Sta. Rosa] because they are young and aggressive and the ball is round.”

Navy improved to a 1-1 record, while Sta. Rosa took their third consecutive defeat.

No one from the City Lions scored in double figures with Anrie Bakil scoring nine points as they only drilled 22 spikes against Navy’s 41 kills.
