MANILA, Philippines-Scottie Thompson’s tirelessness will soon be put to the ultimate test.

With a baby on the way, the Ginebra ace is now bracing for nights which should throw a monkey wrench into the source of his indefatigable play: Sleep.

But it’s not like he minds. He is actually excited about it.

“Jinky tells me that as much as possible I focus on basketball. But I’ll be a daddy [soon] and I’m excited to be a part of the baby’s life,” he told reporters with a smile on Sunday night, shortly after helping the Gin Kings to a rousing 116-108 win over Rain or Shine at the Big Dome.

Thompson, the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, said he has long prepared for the mammoth task of raising a child.

“As soon as Jinky reached five months, I already talked to her about time management,” he said.

“I suggested that after practice, she takes care of everything right after 12 in the morning. As soon as I wake, it’s my turn. Whenever I’m at practice, she again takes over. I think we can pull it off with time management,” he added.

Thompson also assured Ginebra’s fans that he’ll take care of the basketball side of things. His wife is in her seventh month, which means that the Gin Kings guard would only be busy with fatherhood once the conference—where they are defending champions—is over.

“I think the season’s over by then,” he said. “The (delivery will be around the) last week of April or early May.”

“This should serve as motivation for me, an added inspiration,” Thompson added. “I’m just praying the baby and my wife are safe. I’m excited because we know that your priority changes once the baby’s out. And I’m excited to see how I’m able to fulfill my roles as a father and a basketball player in my young career.”
