MANILA, Philippines — Marck Espejo returned to action with 19 points to keep Cignal unbeaten in four games after its 26-24, 25-21, 25-17 victory over PGJC-Navy in the 2023 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Wednesday at Paco Arena.
Espejo, who sat out in their previous game against Air Force due to load management, hardly missed the beat as he delivered 16 kills and three aces on top of six digs.
Espejo and the HD Spikers claimed their fourth straight win in as many games for the share of the league lead with idle D’Navigators Iloilo.
However, Cignal coach Dexter Clamor was not pleased with their fourth win after a tight first set against a Navy side, which missed Jude Garcia due to a left ankle sprain.
“During the first set, I am not impressed with how we won that set. I am not convinced with their performance,” said Clamor in Filipino.
“They were depending the game on Navy even though our opponents were already undermanned. Our team was complacent during the first set. I don’t like that kind of mindset from our players.”
Besides Espejo, Wendel Miguel also stepped up for Cignal with 13 points, while JP Bugaoan added 10 points.
Navy dropped to a 1-3 record with Christian Marcelino leading the way with 15 points. Greg Dolor had 14 markers.
